ketogenic wolf Reviews
It has been a while since I visited with the 'Wolves of New Haven', a very sweet and funny series that takes a different approach to the paranormal world of werewolves. In Ms. Voisen's world, her wolves can be overweight, have diabetes, heart problems, etc., and they're not all naturally buff and built. It makes for some very funny titles, adorable characters, and short, quick reads.Kal and his brothers, Van and Dev, followed Reed to the New Haven pack when Carlos tore the throat out of Jax Starr, ending the war between the two packs. The three brothers owe their lives to Reed as he rescued them from an abusive home life, and gave them the gift of being wolves. Unfortunately, as Jax's mental health had started to decline for the last years, the brothers, as his enforcers, were tasked with committing some heinous acts against people Jax thought wronged him. Because of this, all three brothers have a low sense of self-esteem and worth, believing no one could care for them.So when Kal meets Sal, he is wary about the mate bond, believing Mother Nature would never gift him with someone as precious as a mate. Sal doesn't really believe in fated mates, either, as he's been hurt before, but he can't ignore his wolf's reaction. And Sal isn't about to let this gorgeous hunk of man get away, certainly not if the fates have decreed Kal to be his! Sal might be a little guy who needs to diet, but he's not taking no for an answer. I really adored Sal.A very enjoyable addition to the series with a hint at the end that something, or someone, is out to destroy the Walker brothers. It'll be interesting to see if my suspicion proves correct. Kal and Sal were cute together and I had fun reading their story.NOTE: This book was provided by Evernight Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews
Touching, hot and adorable. This series is an awesome collection of little "Snacks" of hot dominant wolves finding their other halves.
I have to say I love the story line that is constantly developing with this series.Yes, the titles are cheesy. Yes, these stories are super short. And...Yes, these are totally fluffy and usually more focused on the couples and not about pack politics etc. and yet...There is a plot and story line behind all of that which continues to unfold with each book. Now, this is about Kal Walker, part of the enforcers who used to worked for Jax Starr. Kal, Van and Dev are brothers who came to be werewolves to save their lives. They learned how to be ruthless from Jax and learned how to yield from Reed. When it comes time to make a decision once the fall of the Starr Mountain Pack happens, they follow reed to New Haven. The Walker brothers come with a dark reputation but it isn't all they are. Underneath they are still the scared sons of one absent mother who got herself into trouble with the wrong people. Kal... all Kal wants to do is prove his worth to his new Alpha, do his job and maybe, just maybe find himself a mate, even thought he doesn't quite believe in it. When we walks into the gym in New Haven to summon Sal, he learns that this mating business he scoffed at with wolves, really does exist. Sal is at the local meeting, to learn how to lose some weight on this new Ketogenic diet that lets you eat protein but no carbs. Sal is ready to get fit and get mated but only to the right wolf as he doesn't trust easy. When Kal walks into the meeting and their wolves take notice, Sal is able to see what's behind the dark exterior Kal presents to the real man and wolf inside. These two were adorable. I love that Kal is all toppy and growly but will do whatever he needs to for Sal to understand who he belongs to. I love that Sal wants Kal but is hesitant because of his bad reputation. I guess it's a good thing there is supernatural killer on the loose in this installment that forces the men to see what's in-front of them and give it a chance. So that story line I was talking about. It really is showing itself to be interesting and the end of each book is a perfect lead into the next. This end, just when you think it's over we get a new character who is hell bent on destruction and I am so damn curious as to who he is and the why of it all.. I am immeditaly moving on to the next book.
Returning to this world of werewolves with health issues is always fun. Now that the old enemy, Alpha Jax of the Starr Mountain Pack, has been defeated (in book five), I was curious to find out what’s next. I already saw one change in the previous book, and that is an addition of new pack members from the former Starr Mountain Pack. And that is what the author’s focus is in this story. Kal is one of the enforcers from the disbanded pack, and he has a pretty bad reputation, so I was curious to see how he’d integrate into the New Haven Pack. Paired up with Sal, who has health issues and doesn’t think much of himself, the sparks were bound to fly.Sal was never really healthy (asthma and being overweight are his main problems) and becoming a werewolf hasn’t changed that one bit. He is shy, doesn’t trust easily, and can’t believe anyone would be interested in him as a mate. He is struggling with his latest diet attempt when dangerous bad boy Kal takes an interest. Sal doesn’t know whether he can believe his luck or whether he should be afraid for his life and sanity. But as the story develops he begins to see a whole new side to Kal and realizes that not everything about the tough guy is as bad as it looks. Kal may be tough and seem cold and cruel, but as soon as I found out what happened to him when he was a teenager trying to keep his younger brothers Van and Dev safe, I began to understand him better. He’s had a lot to contend with, and while some of the things he did as Jax’s enforcer were not nice, it isn’t as though he had a real choice. Now that Kal is part of the New Haven Pack, he can begin to rebuild his life – and Sal is a big part of that.If you like werewolves who are not the strong, almost invincible guys usually portrayed in paranormal stories, if you want to see two somewhat emotionally damaged characters bond over dealing with finding a murderer, and if you’re looking for a read that is full of misunderstandings, dating advice, and some hot loving, then you might like this short story.NOTE: This book was provided by Evernight Publishing for the purpose of a review.
Ketogenic Wolf is the seventh book in the New Haven Wolves series by author Angelique Voisen. I felt this book is a good stand alone plus a great addition if you are a follower of the series. I love how Ms. Voisen gave us a really great back story for Kal. I really wanted him to find family, and love. He really deserves it. He is ruthless, kind, loving, and is the man you want as your friend. He loves his brothers and when he gives his heart he does it with all that he is. True Alpha hero type.Sal now he did not have such a great build up. When we meet him he is in a meeting to lose some weight. His insecurities make him question weather or not he should be with Kal. For as hard as he makes Kal work to be with him, Sal really is just scared of risking his own heart to love. At the end he did come around and finally be the mate I really wanted for Kal.I wished this book was longer mostly because I adored it that much. But for a short story this is a great glimpse into the life of the New Haven Wolf pack. I hope to see many more in the future.Five Shooting Stars
Loved this book! I love how the author has two people find each other and they are very different but yet are meant to be. The saying opposites attract is very true in these books and I think that is what makes them so interesting to me. Each one that finds each other helps the other one with their faults by lifting them up and making them realize they are loveable no matter how they look. Looks are not everything and in these books that is so true. Kal and Sal are different in so many ways. Kal is the dominate one and Sal is the submissive but both want to please the other one any way possible so that they both are happy. The author gets your attention with the main characters and then slips in some other trouble that has to do with Kal and Sal but they are not the only ones involved. Angelique Voisen's books keep me guessing up until the very end and that's why I keep reading them. There is love and problems throughout the entire story but you just are not sure how it's going to end. I will keep reading Angelique's books because I just can't get enough of her writing about these fantastic wolves shifters. The wolves of New Haven is one series I just want to keep reading.
2.5 I actually thought Sal was the stronger of the two (he and Kal) because while Kal has been through more, Sal was more willing to face his fears. But this has a lot going on, with Nancy and the brothers and such and I thought it just needed to be fleshed in more. Some things were just mentioned and tossed, such as what exactly did Jason Hills do to Sal? It says, "He'll tell you if he wants" but he didn't want to? I wanted to know!
